The final assignment examines how we interpret words to formulate images. Taking inspiration from John Baldasarri and Maurizio Catalan works with police sketchers and Cameron Jamie and Roman Ondak works using secondhand interpretations you will work with a partner to describe a personal photograph from your own collection while your partner records your description in detail on paper. You will repeat the process with your partner only this time you will be the recorder and your partner will be the describer of their photograph.
Rules For the Describer:
1. Recorder must not see your photograph. The point of the assignment is to be able to describe your photograph in vivid detail well enough to give your partner an accurate description to make a detailed drawing of your photograph.
2. Describe everything in your photograph even the smallest detail will make the drawing more realistic.
3. If you say something is the color blue be specific is it baby blue, royal blue, or midnight blue?
4. Working with photographs often poses interesting/odd perspectives or angles. Make sure to describe the angle or perspective of which the image was photographed.
5. As the describer you may use your hand gestures to help you describe your photograph however you cannot draw your description for your partner.
Rules for the Recorder:
1. Ask as many questions as you want to your describer. You want to be able to make an accurate drawing so make sure that your partner’s description makes sense.
2. Once the describer is finished read your notes to the describer to make sure they are accurate and match up with the photograph.

Process:
1. Each person will have 30-45 minutes to describe their photograph to their partner.
2. Once the describer has describe their entire photograph to the recorder the recorder will read all their notes to the describe to make sure the notes are correct.
